Fire Prevention / Protection – Employees understand fire prevention/protection and ensure compliance with all federal, state, including OSHA regulation [29 CFR 1910.39], proper handling and storage procedures for hazardous materials, potential ignition sources and their control, and the type of fire protection equipment necessary to control each major hazard. Identify and control potential ignition sources that can cause a fire in the workplace. Employees also must know where fire extinguishers are mounted, locate, and identify them so that they are readily accessible to employees without subjecting the employees to possible injury. [29 CFR 1910.157(c)(1)] Use only approved portable fire extinguishers and understanding how to use the “PASS” method and aiming at the base of the fire. Hand Protection- employees know and understand appropriate hand protection and when hands are exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasions; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes [29 CFR 1910. 138.
